Principal's Message
Dear RPLC/EYP Families and Community Members,
We would like to thank all of the families that have contributed their time to recent activities at RPLC. Our recent student celebration highlighted our KN – 5th grade students and staff members by having students express their thanks to their teachers. In our pre school Thanksgiving activities and feast were held in each classroom with family members.
Please take the time to read all of the messages from the staff members here at RPLC/EYP that are posted on our website.
TELEPHONE ALERT SYSTEM EXPANDED
Red Clay parents can now sign onto the AlertNow telephone system and choose at which numbers they will receive messages.
In addition to emergency notification, the system also allows schools to quickly send reminders and other important information to parents.
Recognizing that families may want to tailor the types of information they receive through this system, parents are encouraged to visit the Alert Now Parent Portal website and select what types of messages they wish to receive.
Parents are still encouraged to contact their child’s school when home or guardian phone numbers change.
The parent portal is available at the following location: www.redclay.k12.de.us/automatedcalling Parents will be receiving a letter with instructions and login information to the Alert Now parent portal.
Superstars in Education
Three RPLC staff members will be honored this May by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce as winners of the Superstars in Education Program. Cynthia Pochomis, Michael Bank, and Terry Celano will be recognized for their work on the "Savings for Success" program at the school, better known by the students as "Classroom Cash."
This program encourages special education students to learn the value of a dollar while promoting positive behavior and academic success. Children are given classroom cash that they can save in individual wallets. They may be rewarded for good manners or befriending a new student. Their funds may be used to purchase toys, games or books as well as lunch with a faculty member, educational assemblies or special events.
Buddy Program
Over the past eight years, students from the Richardson Park Learning Center and the Charter School of Wilmington have been collaborating to establish a bond between the two schools. The students at the Learning Center benefit from excellent academic and social role models. The Charter School students learn about children with disabilities and explore the field of education as a possible career path.
Monthly visits by the Charter School ‘Big Buddies’ are looked forward to with anticipation by the Learning Center ‘Little Buddies.’ The attention given to our students improves their self-esteem and they blossom academically and socially as they try to perform their best to gain the approval of their buddies.
The Charter Buddies accompanied our fourth and fifth graders to Cape Henlopen to explore the ecosystems of coastal Delaware on October 8th. For Thanksgiving, we shared turkey sandwiches and talk about the things for which we are thankful. As a culminating activity, the two schools will travel together to Longwood Gardens in the spring.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to deliver a quality education in a safe and secure learning environment where instructional services and programs meet the needs of our diverse student population.
